Using Natural Substances To Clean Your Teeth

If you want to live a more natural lifestyle and forgo manufactured toothpaste, you can use common food items to effectively clean your teeth and gums. You can eliminate many manufactured tooth aids and still have good oral health. So next time you go to the grocery store, consider bypassing the toothpaste aisle and heading for the food items.

Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar

A combination of these two natural ingredients can clean and whiten your teeth. Mixing two teaspoons of vinegar and one-half teaspoon of baking soda creates a paste that can get rid of those unsightly surface stains. You can also use the apple cider vinegar as a mouthwash in conjunction with your other tooth care practices.

Green Tea

Research indicates that using green tea extract as a mouth rinse can help prevent tooth erosion. If you eat crackers, cookies, or other starchy foods, rinsing with green tea can keep those foods from causing cavities. In addition, those who drink green tea have healthier gums than those folks who do not.

Essential Oils

You can use a variety of essential oils to maintain a healthy smile. Cinnamon oil has been shown to fight the bacteria that causes tooth decay as well as one of the bacteria that causes gum disease. Spearmint oil is an antiseptic that can help any mouth wound to quickly heal. Clove essential oil represses the growth of bacteria and, in the earlier days of dentistry, was used to disinfect root canals. Any of these oils can enhance your dental routine.

Coconut Oil

Some people use a technique called "coconut oil pulling." This process includes putting a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swishing it between your teeth for a period of five to twenty minutes. If you do not want to "pull" the oil, you can apply a few drops with your toothbrush. The coconut oil is said to whiten your teeth and improve the health of your gums.

If you want to take a more natural route to healthy teeth, you can use a variety of oils and other substances to do so. Using essential oils or even baking soda and apple cider vinegar can keep your teeth white and your gums healthy. Drinking green tea can also improve your dental hygiene. Of course, the best thing you can do for your mouth is to establish a regular and thorough routine to clean both your teeth and gums.
